ViaWest Selects GE to Power Its Data Centers

Powering the most energy-efficient and fault-tolerant data centers is not an easy task, so ViaWest turned to the experts at GE’s Critical Power business when it was designing its newest Tier IV design-certified data centers. ViaWest is using GE’s highly reliable electrical distribution systems to power several of the company’s data centers, including the Lone Mountain facility in Las Vegas; the Cornell data center in Denver; the Synergy Park data center in Dallas; and two new data centers under construction in Denver and Minneapolis.

To meet the rigorous standards of the Uptime Institute’s Tier IV design certification for its newest data centers, ViaWest needed to deliver fully redundant power systems that would host mission-critical data with the highest levels of uptime, redundancy and fault tolerance. With a combination of critical electrical infrastructure and flexible financing, GE’s electrical distribution systems allowed ViaWest to maximize its use of capital by matching payments on the lease with cash inflows from new customers.

GE’s electrical distribution systems, which include substation distribution equipment, switchboards, panelboards, transformers and power switching equipment, meet ViaWest’s needs for guaranteed uptime, redundancy and fault tolerance. GE’s Critical Power business provides mission-critical applications with end-to-end power product and service solutions that maximize uptime and power efficiency.
