Wireless broadband technology provides its users a cutting-edge and lightning fast Web browsing experience without the hassles and limitations of wires. Gone are the days of slow loading times and with the growth of modern Web sites, a 56K modem just won't cut it anymore. The Internet is now rich with multi-media and wireless broadband connectivity makes it a fun and mobile experience.
Main Identity
The concept of wireless broadband is still relatively new. When you hear of broadband, you think of any relatively fast network. The term "broadband" actually has a more technical meaning which defines a point at which a network can be considered "broadband." Two factors that define a network is its speed and bandwidth. Broadband networks have a minimal speed of 1.5 Mbit/s and a bandwidth greater than 1 MHz. This means that a broadband network at worst is 27 times faster than a 56K modem! The widespread development of wireless broadband technology in the United States of America began in 2007 and as time continues to move forward, the number of households that utilize this technology increases.
Expanding Growth
Broadband networks now expand beyond the four walls of your home or any given building. Cell phone carriers and providers provide mobile broadband connectivity for not only cell phones but for other wireless-enabled devices such as laptops and computers as well. Though using broadband connectivity with adapters for laptops to enable Internet connectivity on the go can be a little bit more costly, the convenience that it provides justifies the added expense for many users. It is remarkable how mobile we have become and how easily accessible the Internet is from wherever we are.
Availability and Costs of Mobile Broadband
The growing competition that occurs between various companies such as Verizon, AT&T, T-mobile, and others ensures that there will be competitive prices on the market for mobile broadband services. For the most part, companies will provide customers with a set amount of data usage for a given price. For unlimited data plans, customers receive an unlimited amount of data for a price but after a set amount of data usage, users may experience drops in their speeds. As far as availability, data maps from the various companies that provide mobile broadband data services reveal that the vast majority of the United States has access.
Speeds of Mobile Broadband
Advertised speeds of mobile broadband range from 2G to 4G. 2G is the slowest with speeds that are not much better than 150 Kbit/s at best and 4G (which is still not available everywhere) provides speeds anywhere from 3-6 Mbit/s (download). 4G speeds are up to 10x faster than 3G (which ranges from 600 Kbit/s to just over 1 Mbit/s). That's like swapping out DSL for a high-speed cable modem. It will not be long until 4G mobile broadband speeds are more widely available.
Wireless broadband technology has changed our lives. It has made the Internet experience faster, more accessible, more convenient, and more enjoyable. There is just so much more we can do when we are not tied down with very slow speeds and a restricted are of connectivity.
