Tinet sure has a lot to celebrate these days! From the exciting acquisition by Neutral Tandem in October 2010 to the recent ranking of Number 6 in Renesys’ year-end review for the top 13 Internet providers (a.k.a. the “Baker’s Dozen” ), the key global carrier is shaping up to have another positive year in terms of solid growth.
When Renesys, the authority in global Internet intelligence, commenced its “Baker’s Dozen” year-end review in 2008, Internet transit and content delivery networks dominated the market; and Tinet ranked in the middle of the top 13. In 2009, as streaming media plowed its way to lead the market thanks to the likes of YouTube and Netflix, Tinet made number 10 on the list as it saw increased transit from Interoute and attained Singapore Telecom as a customer. In 2010, as millions began to use the Internet as a TV as a mainstream activity, Tinet remained “cozy in the middle” but notably moved from its number 10 slot to number 6 after its consecutively remarkable year in growth, tying with TeliaSonera, and passing AT&T, Verizon and Tata.
Tinet’s growth in 2010 is attributed to several factors including its acquisition by Neutral Tandem, a leading provider of interconnection services; a monumental partnership with Gulf Bridge International; a new low latency route between Hong Kong and Europe; and significant customer wins such as FXCM Holdings, Hosting.com, NORDUnet and China Telecom.
Tinet also extended its global IP and Ethernet network into the Boston in April; and Phoenix in December.
