Cambridge Telephone Company has been serving communities in rural Nebraska since 1918 as a subsidiary of Pinpoint Holdings. As an Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier (ILEC), Cambridge Telephone had been providing local data and voice services over its legacy copper infrastructure. However, with new technologies being introduced that required more advanced infrastructure, the legacy copper was severely limiting the company’s ability to offer higher-bandwidth, Internet access and cable TV services at attractive price points.

“The communities we serve were always pleased with our reliability, service and involvement in the community,” stated Tom Shoemaker, Executive Vice President at Cambridge Telephone. “But if we had stayed the course we were on, we knew the day was coming when competitors would be able to offer Internet speeds, TV and entertainment at prices we could not.” Cambridge Telephone executives quickly realized that the company’s future required it to upgrade its copper and implement a state-of-the-art Fiber to the Home (FTTH) infrastructure.
