Founded in 1842, The Citadel is a public, coeducational military college in Charleston, S.C., that offers a classic military education for young men and women. The Citadel had been considering alternative service solutions to improve campus connections, capacity and connectivity and began the search for a provider last year. Having reviewed DukeNet’s DIA offerings, the school’s technology staff selected the service provider and implemented a solution that would help them save thousands of dollars per month while boosting available bandwidth and improving campus connectivity. DukeNet is now working with The Citadel to create a disaster recovery solution that will be implemented by fall 2013. Technology continues to play a critical role in education today, offering students more [![](https://static.hsstatic.net/BlogImporterAssetsUI/ex/missing-image.png "Citadel")](https://blog.jsa.net/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/Citadel.png)varied and effective ways to learn than ever before. Campuses today are in great need of connectivity to not only run corporate systems, but also to enable distance-learning applications, manage a multitude of tablets, smartphones and laptops and to provide students with the capacity outside of the classroom for leisure activities. “A robust and reliable Internet connection is table stakes for any campus today,” explains George Russ, Director of Network Operations and Security at The Citadel. “So much of the information and education that shapes tomorrow’s leaders is available via online sources and discussion. We complement that here at The Citadel with excellent instruction and a rich cadet life. We implemented DukeNet’s Gigabit Ethernet solution to allow us to quickly and easily turn up more capacity for the growth we expect in the future and to deliver redundant and reliable bandwidth for our student body. We have found in DukeNet a responsive partner that has created great value for our team.” “Education today is an interactive global environment that requires students and faculty to be engaged,” says Mike Prendergast, Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing at DukeNet. “This network enables that and helps The Citadel to reinforce and build upon its successful history of developing strong leaders that are prepared for the future. We are pleased to work with The Citadel to develop this solution and look forward to further expansion into additional markets across the Carolinas.” [dark fiber](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/dark-fiber), [DIA](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/dia), [DukeNet](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/dukenet), [DukeNet Communications](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/dukenet-communications), [fiber](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/fiber), [fiber optics](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/fiber-optics), [Internet](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/internet), [IP Solutions](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/ip-solutions), [network growth](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/network-growth), [network provider](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/network-provider), [100 gbps](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/100-gbps), [Broadband](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/broadband), [Ethernet](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/ethernet), [bandwidth](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/bandwidth), [broadband connections](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/broadband-connections), [broadband infrastructure](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/broadband-infrastructure), [Citadel](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/citadel), [cloud](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/cloud), [GigE](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/gige), [Internet access](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/internet-access), [IPv4](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/ipv4), [IPv6](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/ipv6), [network](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/network), [Southeast](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/southeast), [voice](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/voice-2), [Telecom](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/telecom), [Telecommunications](https://blog.jsa.net/blog/tag/telecommunications) #### Share This Article [mailto:?body=https://blog.jsa.net/blog/the-citadel-selects-dukenet-communications-for-high-capacity-campus-connectivity/13355](mailto:?body=https://blog.jsa.net/blog/the-citadel-selects-dukenet-communications-for-high-capacity-campus-connectivity/13355) TEX Dallas 2019 is taking place on March 13, 2019 at the Aloft Dallas Downtown.
