Telco Americana: A Tale of Heritage, Heroes and Hope

Steve Gleave, SVP Marketing of Metaswitch, and his team at Telco Americana are embarking on a project to put together a “coffee table book” that celebrates rural telcos throughout the US.  They are calling the project, “Telco Americana: Heritage. Heros. Hope.” which will honor the great American Telco and the history that has been delivered over the past 100 years in rural service and service innovation.

According to Gleave, "There’s more innovation in rural America than you’ll find in any cosmopolitan city: Operators are delivering fiber to the home, powering smart grids, facilitating remote education, enabling telemedicine, hosting business communications, managing email, security, storage and back-up."  And now Steve is setting out to find these men and women who are behind operating and delivering services, fibers and power to schools, businesses, homes and customers by traveling to the rural telcos American neighborhoods.

Telco Americana VideoHere is where you can become involved in this project. The folks at Telco Americana want to hear from you.  Tell them about the heroes in your town, and they will interview them.  The idea is and have the legion of good people that are truly making a difference continue, continue to inspire others by creating a book about them.  Telco Americana wants to celebrate the achievements and the unique roles that people are playing in by serving their local communities, and we can't blame them.

They are encouraging you to share your stories, photos and quotes with them.  And in return will pay homage to your heritage, hail your heroes and highlight the reasons why hope lies ahead.  Click here to watch the short,
charismatic clip where Steve Gleave shares his passion and purpose for this project.
