It's filled with football, over the top commercials and enough buffalo wings to feed an army. However, the buzz around this year's Super Bowl is slightly different. Super Bowl 50 is being hailed as the "techiest" of all time. This year’s event will take place in Levi’s Stadium, home of the San Francisco 49ers, in Santa Clara, California. Fittingly set against the backdrop of Silicon Valley, the smart facility is recognized as the most high-tech stadium in the world. So, what does it take to earn that distinction? Well first, you need to ensure that technology enhances the overall fan experience by keeping everyone connected. None of the nearly 70,000 fans attending Super Bowl 50 will run into slow upload times when trying to share their latest selfies or buffering issues when trying to watch the last replay thanks to the 1,200 distributed antennas throughout the stadium. Located to serve every 100 seats, these antennas are connected to all major carriers and provide seamless WiFi and 4G access. The stadium’s backbone features 40 Gbps of scalable bandwidth over the 400 miles of fiber and copper cabling within. This is 40 times more Internet bandwidth than any known U.S. stadium and four times greater than the WiFi standard set by the league for NFL stadiums. All of this infrastructure will be put to good use on the big day, as fans in attendance are expected to consume 16 terabytes of mobile data during the game this Sunday. To top off the fan experience, over 2,000 TVs are located around the stadium, so fans never have to miss a close up of a play or replay. Over 70 of these TVs feature Sony’s 4K technology (that’s four times the number of pixels in full HD!). Want to watch a previous replay instead of the one on the TVs overhead? Not a problem. The Levi’s Stadium app enables fans to watch up to four of the most recent replays at any time, guides them to key locations throughout the stadium with precise directions via Bluetooth technology, allows food and drinks to be ordered and delivered directly to seats and locates the nearest bathroom with the shortest line.
