Sandy Recovery - JSA Gives Back

Demolished homes and flooded cars, the families in New Dorp Beach lost everything. Over the weekend a group of my friends and I volunteered in New Dorp Beach, Staten Island and helped multiple families rip out their basements before mold could set in. The basements were completely flooded leaving only dirt and random pieces of scattered sod. All items in these homes were ruined; everything touched by water had to go.  All of the homes on the block were in this condition and left with all of their belongings piled out in front of their yards waiting for the dump truck to come by for removal.

All this aside, the residents of New Dorp were nothing but positive and hopeful and most feeling relieved as some have been so overwhelmed by the destruction with no idea where to begin. Everywhere we looked, volunteers from all over were offering families and other volunteers supplies and warm meals. It was great to see a community really come together.

JSA is asking our telecom community to donate to the Tunnel to Tower Foundation, an organization that is helping to raise money for those affected by Hurricane Sandy in the New York area.
