OptelianTraining Session on Optical Networking to Encourage NREN Advances in Africa

Intuitive Packet Optical NetworkingTM solution provider, Optelian, announced that its Business Development Manager, Brian Savory, will deliver a presentation and a training session on National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) at UbuntuNet-Connect 2013 in Kigali, Rwanda, November 14-15. Optelian is also a sponsor of the event.

On Thursday, November 14, Mr. Savory will present “Advantages of Industry Membership Program for Emerging NRENs.” This conference session will be moderated by Ludmila Maguni, CEO of Mozambique Research & Education Network (MoRENet). The presentation will address existing global partnerships and programs that exist for Research & Education networks with advanced technology and networking companies. The session will also cover how NRENs can most effectively operate within these programs to develop a successful, high-performance network focused on users.

As part of the pre-conference program, Mr. Savory will conduct a training session on Tuesday, November 12, for UbuntuNet attendees on “Optical Networking 101 – A Tutorial for Emerging NRENs.” Designed for CTOs and network engineers of UbuntuNet member organizations, the session will address the fundamentals of optical networking in the context of deploying advanced R&E networks across Africa.

UbuntuNet-Connect is the Annual Conference of UbuntuNet Alliance, which focuses on research and education networking activities in Africa. It is organized by UbuntuNet Alliance and hosted by member NRENs. The Conference brings together practitioners in the research and education networking community, researchers, policy makers, academicians, connectivity providers and a pool of expertise from across Africa and beyond. The annual networking conference provides a forum to showcase the progress in research and education networking in Africa.
