Next stop, Serengeti

Hello again!   TNN on the Road continues to report from Africa as we follow JSA’s Lauren Sauer. Check out Lauren’s post from Serengeti.

I am finally back in a wifi-enabled area and I wanted to take this opportunity to share some amazing photos and the experience I had while camping in Serengeti.

Here is a picture of the leopard I ran into yesterday in the middle of Serengeti. He was so brave and not afraid of humans, or even cars, however, I cannot say the same about me. We locked eyes at one point and I thought for a second he was going to jump into my vehicle.

We camped at a close distance to "the big 5", or the most dangerous animals in the world: Rhinos, lions, leopards, cheetahs and buffaloes. It was such an incredible experience. Knowing this, it seemed a bit ridiculous that the spider and frog in my bed still frightened me.

We stayed in a 1-bedroom tent in the middle of the Serengeti. For instance, there was a buffalo about 10 feet away from our campground site. Maasai warriors, who are known as fierce warriors, and live alongside most wild animals, also guarded the camp. It would get intense while sitting around the bonfire, as we heard noises and would try to guess what animal made that noise. However, the guard assured us several times the lions were about 50 feet away (what a relief)! As for the weather, in Zanzibar it was over 110 degrees with full humidity.
