The company, based in Concord, Calif., already attended the UTC Region 4 meeting on Oct. 1 in Acme, Mich., and the UTC Region 3 meeting on Oct. 7 in Mobile, Ala. [![photo_dean](https://blog.jsa.net/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/photo_dean.jpg?width=150&height=149&name=photo_dean.jpg)](https://blog.jsa.net/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/photo_dean.jpg)Next week, on Oct. 15 and 16, LightRiver will participate in the UTC Region 10 meeting in San Jose, Calif. Dean L. Campbell, Chief Technology Officer at LightRiver, will give a presentation on Oct. 15 at 10:45 a.m. titled, “SDN and NFV: How Will They Impact Utility Networks.” As CTO, Dean is responsible for the development of LightRiver's product and technology solutions portfolio. He brings more than 20 years of IT management, software applications development, and large-scale data-networking experience to LightRiver. [![UTC Logo](https://blog.jsa.net/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/UTC-Logo.png?width=220&height=112&name=UTC-Logo.png)](https://blog.jsa.net/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/UTC-Logo.png)During his presentation, Dean will cover SDN and NFV - two acronyms that are sweeping the telecommunications industry. Developed to support the explosive growth and rapid change in data center environments, Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) are growing past the data center boundaries. These concepts are fundamentally changing the way in which manufacturers develop networking products, the way in which networks are operated, incorporation of new features into the environment, and the ability of networks to respond to changing demands. This discussion will cover the genesis of SDN and NFV, what they currently mean, and offerings in the marketplace.  It will also explore how these changes might affect “Critical Infrastructure” telecommunications networks in the future.
