Hunter Newby talks about fiber shortage with Light Reading TV

As America’s wireless broadband demands continue to increase, so must the infrastructure to support the technology. Hunter Newby, CEO of Allied Fiber, spoke with Carol Wilson, Chief Editor of Events for Light Reading, at Light Reading’s Packet Optical Expo in New York about the negative impact fiber shortages are going to impose on mobile broadband. Hunter believes that the rapid emergence of high bandwidth wireless LTE will induce constraints on cell towers. Less than ¼ of the cell towers in the US have fiber connections and without these support systems, the technology will be starved as the demand increases.

Allied Fiber intends to meet this challenge with their vision for a new fiber system in the US. Allied Fiber owns, builds, and operates its own unique carrier-neutral dark fiber system using next generation long-haul and short-haul fiber. The fiber system will provide a supporting infrastructure to address America’s need for increased broadband access, wireless backhaul, data center distribution and lower latency communications services.
