Hibernia got its start through the purchase of a transatlantic submarine cable from 360networks in 2003 and has since grown to over 172 Points of Presence (PoPs) in 24 countries and across 274,000 kilometers of fiber. Other Hibernia achievements include: - - First to offer 40 Gbps over a subsea span between US and Canada - - First to offer 10 Gbps Ethernet LAN-PHY capacity across the Atlantic - - Completion of the deployment of Project Kelvin, a contract awarded by the European Union, bringing direct international connectivity into the northwest region of Ireland as well as a fiber-rich fiber ring into 12 cities in Northern Ireland and connecting them via a new submarine link to North America and Europe [Bjarni Thorvardarson](http://www.hiberniaatlantic.com/exec_team.html), CEO of Hibernia Networks said, “Hibernia’s scope of services has evolved over the years to create and deploy flexible and next-generation solutions for our customers,” Networks. “Through this evolution, we have honed in on providing core services to the wholesale, financial and media communities. With this focus, we are able to unite hundreds of key interconnectivity points around the world and continue to grow strategically in markets we see have opportunities for strong success.” We look forward to seeing Hibernia continue its rich heritage of providing cutting-edge services and in expanding its network in the years to come.
