Bjarni Thorvardarson, CEO of Hibernia Atlantic, and Dan Caruso, President & CEO of Zayo Group, have been named finalists for the 2012 Capacity Awards’ Personality of the Year. The Personality of the Year category is new for 2012 and recognizes a CEO or senior executive who has demonstrated exceptional levels of leadership and innovation within the wholesale telecommunications industry.
Mr. Thorvardarson has been the CEO of Hibernia Atlantic, a global and metro provider of diverse high bandwidth connectivity, since 2005. His vision has spurred the growth of the company from a single submarine cable and two PoPs, to a state of the art submarine cable network and over 120 PoPs. Mr. Thorvardarson is also responsible for spearheading Hibernia’s historic cable build, Project Express. The Project Express subsea cable build is a direct response to an increased demand for low latency routes. The state-of-the-art submarine network build will be the shortest route from New York to London.
Mr. Caruso formed Zayo Group, an international provider of fiber-based Bandwidth Infrastructure and network-neutral colocation and interconnection services, in late 2006. Caruso has overseen 21 acquisitions, including the acquisition of 360networks in 2011 and AboveNet in 2012. Through the combination of acquisitions and organic growth, Zayo has become a leading provider of Bandwidth Infrastructure solutions under Mr. Caruso’s leadership.
