[![Screen shot 2015-05-12 at 12.16.40 PM](https://blog.jsa.net/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/Screen-shot-2015-05-12-at-12_16_40-PM1.png?width=164&height=156&name=Screen-shot-2015-05-12-at-12_16_40-PM1.png)](https://blog.jsa.net/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/Screen-shot-2015-05-12-at-12_16_40-PM1.png)It has been a year since [DE-CIX New York](https://nyc.de-cix.net/) passed its first customer traffic in May 2014 and what a year it has been! Adding over 70 networks and establishing over 110 access points across the metro, DE-CIX has proven to be the fastest-growing Internet exchange in the New York/New Jersey metro area. DE-CIX’s carrier-neutral, distributed model has proven to be a valuable and welcome addition to the region’s existing Internet exchange ecosystem. The DE-CIX model also allows customers the freedom to choose their data centers based on their unique needs, as DE-CIX follows its customers to ensure that service is available in all relevant facilities. Once settled in the data centers of their choosing, customers are just a cross connect away from a rich ecosystem of hundreds of ISPs and carriers. ![Manhattan,_New_York2](https://blog.jsa.net/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/Manhattan_New_York2.jpg?width=541&height=314&name=Manhattan_New_York2.jpg)“While many networks are heavily dependent on an oligopoly of transit providers, our customers can take advantage of access to settlement-free peering,” states Frank Orlowski, Chief Marketing Officer at DE-CIX. “Pure transit customers typically do not get an SLA that covers the transit providers’ interconnection to other networks. Our DE-CIX Apollon customers interconnect directly in a quality-controlled environment that is operated by the most experienced Internet exchange engineering in the market.” [Click here](https://www.de-cix.net/news-events/latest-news/news/article/de-cix-new-york-completes-first-year-with-strong-results-1/) to view the full press release.
