GlobeNet's Extension to Colombia Complete!

GlobeNet announced today that it has completed the construction on its new extension to its subsea network to Colombia, which will act as an express route from Colombia’s Atlantic Coast to Miami, Florida. The build provides the lowest latency route from Colombia to Brazil and complements GlobeNet’s existing ring-protected International capacity service to Colombia. UNE, the largest Internet provider and a leading full-service telecom operator in Colombia, will be the anchor tenant for the route.

The new build is a direct extension of GlobeNet’s existing subsea cable system connecting the US, Venezuela, Brazil and Bermuda. The build also further demonstrates GlobeNet’s focus on Latin America and its commitment to supporting the growth of Colombia’s ICT infrastructure by addressing the increased demand for high capacity in Colombia.

Thanks to close collaboration with Alcatel-Lucent, the build was completed in record time and features a new Cable Landing Station (CLS) located in Barranquilla on Colombia’s Atlantic coast. The CLS provides open access to the countries terrestrial providers. Additionally, the build is equipped with advanced coherent technology and is able to support 100Gbps transmission thanks to the inclusion of the Alcatel-Lucent 1620 Light Manager
