As the fourth largest online market in the world, behind China, India and the US, Brazil is currently experiencing a consistent upswing in the number of people accessing the internet on a yearly basis. In fact, two years ago in 2016, just 55.65% of the country’s population had an online presence. By 2022, almost 62% are expected to be downloading, creating and sharing content online. For years, however, Brazilian internet traffic has mainly relied on the Sao Paulo IXP in the southern part of the country. GlobeNet’s new IXP in Fortaleza effectively ends this dependence, improving quality of service for individuals and enterprises across northern Brazil. “At GlobeNet, we’re excited to be contributing to Brazil’s expanding digital economy. The new Fortaleza IXP is key to ensuring the resiliency of the country’s internet infrastructure. For network operators, ISPs and other enterprises, it means increased bandwidth and ultra low latency connections, all backed by our solid data center infrastructure and reliable fiber-optic subsea cable system. We are not only answering today’s demand for improved connectivity, but we are also future proofing Brazil’s northern networks for increased internet penetration.” - [Eduardo Falzoni](https://globenet.com/en/about-globenet_posts/eduardo-falzoni/), CEO of GlobeNet For network operators looking to connect in the Fortaleza IXP, [NIC.br](https://nic.br/) is also using the site to deploy its first full-service infrastructure outside São Paulo. In short, the city will now serve as a hub for all NIC.br’s northeastern operations in Brazil – a major step forward for Latin America’s largest country by GDP.
