Global Capacity – It’s What’s “Missing from the Market”

It’s been over a month since our Telecom Exchange (TEX) event and I’m only just now beginning to get my head around some of the ideas and concepts I heard kicked around by the various attendees and speakers et al at the show. Some observations, Fiber is
Big (and not just in breakfast cereal circles). Access is Big. Cooperation is Big. These are the words I heard more than any others at TEX. Which brings me to the one word I heard once (and chuckled a bit) and then heard again and again – Coopetition. It really sounded funny to me the first time I heard it, but it is our reality. In this industry, only those that cooperate and collaborate can compete. And no one is exempt. The fellow that brought this all home for me was Greg Hough, CTO of Global Capacity in his discussion with TMCNet’s Julianna Kenny.

In his conversation with Julianna, Greg unabashedly spoke of cooperation (without ever speaking the word directly), noting that many carriers today look at their footprint and try to figure out how to sell to the businesses that line their fiber access or the central offices in which they are already interconnected. Not particularly effective or efficient. Mr. Hough went on to say that Global Capacity takes a “much larger macro view” – from a demand set. In other words, where do all of the clients want to go? Global Capacity automates 150,000 quotes a month, which is an awful lot of demand. That’s everything from T1 access to gig-Ethernet services. Looking at that, you get a great picture of what’s missing in the market. Pssst – It’s coopetition. Since Global Capacity have so many facilities based carriers and clients, they can actually take principal position in creating access into markets that everyone seems to have difficulty with and just enable them to go there through a single interconnect like Global Capacity. Get it? They are automating the procurement of the one thing we all want, access baby! They facilitate Coopetition!

Mr. Hough’s comments all pointed to one thing – addressing the interconnection and access challenges faced by his clients (and the industry at large for that matter). Global Capacity takes a detailed look at the interconnection and access challenges faced by the telecommunications industry and are addressing those challenges head on by providing a solution that allows everyone to win.
