A nice steady round of news for FirstLight this week! Yesterday, kicking off the first day of COMPTEL PLUS Spring, the company announced the upgrade of its core IP Network. To round out Day 2, FirstLight announced this morning that it has enhanced its Carrier Ethernet Service Platform by offering industry standard compliant Ethernet Access across its entire footprint. Ethernet Access service is an increasingly popular Carrier Ethernet 2.0 solution that enables service providers to seamlessly leverage the networks of regional, fiber-based networks to extend their reach and serve customers’ remote locations.
“Enhancing our already robust portfolio of Metro Ethernet solutions, FirstLight’s offering of Ethernet Access service represents our Company’s ongoing commitment to support our carrier customers with the newest, most progressive technologies,” commented Brian Kurkowski, CTO of FirstLight. “Few carriers have ubiquitous networks, so being able to leverage FirstLight’s extensive fiber network throughout Upstate New York and Northern New England will allow our carrier customers to better serve their clients. FirstLight’s Metro Ethernet service, now enhanced with Ethernet Access service, meets the industry’s highest standards, and is the reliable, scalable solution needed to help our wholesale customers provide the comprehensive solutions their clients require.”

In other FirstLight news today, the company has collaborated with BayRing Communications, a New England-based Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC). Together the companies will enhance their respective capabilities within the regional markets they serve in order to best cater to businesses throughout New England.
“FirstLight has been a proven partner in helping BayRing to maintain a strong, local presence by providing Ethernet circuits in areas that previously had not had many meaningful alternatives for high bandwidth local loops,” commented David Gibson, Director of Business Development at BayRing Communications. “Through our relationship with FirstLight, we gain access to their extensive fiber-based solutions throughout portions of Northern New England not currently lit with BayRing fiber, which allows us to provide a technologically superior product to our clients.”
