Express Update: On track for summer 2015 service, Hibernia announces Express connection to Cork, Ireland

HiberniaNETWORK_logo4cHibernia Networks has announced an update for its highly anticipated transatlantic Express cable. Today’s press release has two key points, an update on the Express cable manufacturing and the announcement that Express will connect to Cork, Ireland. Let’s start with the cable manufacturing progress to date.

In today’s release, John Mitchell, President of TE Subsea Communications LLC TE Subcom Logo(manufacturer of the Express cable), reported that, “The cable route survey has been completed and more than 90 percent of lightweight cable, as well as 65 percent of armored cable needed for the system has been manufactured, bringing us even closer to the installation phase.”

Mitchell is confident that Hibernia’s Express cable is on track to be ready for provisional acceptance in summer 2015.

Hibernia also announced in today’s release that it will connect Express to Cork, Ireland, delivering a global gateway to Southwest Ireland. The connection of Ireland to the United States and Europe via Express presents a significant economic opportunity for Ireland, making the Emerald Isle that much more appealing to both established players and tech startups moving forward.

Hibernia is the only transatlantic cable provider to own and operate three diverse cable landing stations in Ireland and the only provider with six diverse routes connecting the island of Ireland to North America and Europe on its wholly owned and operated infrastructure.

The technology industry has been on the rise in Ireland, Hibernia recognized Ireland’s importance early on, originally starting its work in Ireland in 2003. The company has continued to invest in Ireland over the years, as evidenced by its latest announcement.
