Since completing its customer migration to DE-CIX Apollon in December, the Internet exchange has seen continued customer and traffic growth. Recent traffic and customer growth has kept DE-CIX’s engineering team busy. Most recently, the team has been hard at work on a project to enhance the DE-CIX Apollon core capacity. The first of the edge switches to the core has been upgraded to 1.6 Terabits (the equivalent of transmitting eight Blu-Ray DVDs every second).
This is the first edge switch to have such a large capacity, but will soon be followed by a second switch currently being upgraded from 1.2 terabits to 1.6 terabits. An additional switch is also in place and will be operational in the near future. In total, the six edge switches will bring DE-CIX Apollon’s core capacity to 6 Tbps.
