While I'm not actually attending the Spring COMPTEL show this year (holding down the JS&A fort), the word on the virtual street is that this year's Spring COMPTEL show in San Francisco has been a wild success to this point. Friends are getting re-acquainted. New friendships are being made. Speakers are speaking - moderators moderating. New and familiar faces around every corner. Most importantly, business is getting done!
Just heard from Tim Kiser (Colo Atl - Colocation - Atlanta, GA) who is attending COMPTEL for the first time. He mentioned that he's met a lot of folks and listened to a number of insightful speakers. And THAT's what COMPTEL is about. What was of particular interest to me was just how many people proactively sought face-time with Tim (admittedly making my job much easier). This is a pretty darn good indicator that quality colocation and interconnection are critical to enabling today's technologies (yes, Cloud, I'm talking about you). Good luck, Tim! Bring me back some stress balls and plastic pens!
Then there's Optelian (Optical Network Enablers), the COMPTEL veterans. They're sending mobile pics back to the JS&A home offices while educating booth patrons on the benefits of Optelian's world-class optical networking gear (which, incidentally, is manufactured in-house, in North America!) Bam! How's that for speed to deployment?! Brian Savory, the company's Business Development Manager, has been busy, ehem, developing business as one would expect from someone with that title. Business, my friends, is getting done!
Telecom pros visiting the Haight...and bringing the love! COMPTEL San Fran is on!
