Berkeley Research Group, LLC announced that it has released the first in a series of white papers that will address the critical issues surrounding IPv4 migration, including IPv4 address shortage problems and solutions. In this first installment, NATs—Are They a Long-Term Solution to the IPv4 Address Shortage?, BRG examines the use of Network Address Translation systems as a long-term solution to the impending IPv4 address shortage. Key areas addressed include:
“BRG’s white paper series offers a comprehensive understanding of the impending global IPv4 address shortage, the strains this will put on the Internet services environment over the coming months, and potential solutions,” states BRG Director Gregory Nachtwey. “The NAT paper takes a closer look at one’s ability to rely on NATs as an acceptable alternative or substitute for a dedicated IPv4 address.”
As leading researchers and thought leaders in this space, BRG has monitored and commented on the realities of the IPv4 address shortage and IPv6 transition for several years and recently advised on one of the largest acquisitions of IPv4 addresses to date.
