With the start of the Democratic National Convention, now is a perfect time to take a look at President Obama’s broadband Executive Order. This topic is exactly what Allied Fiber’s CEO, Hunter Newby covered in his latest article for Internet Telephony magazine.
In an article titled ‘“We Can’t Wait”…For Dark Fiber’, Hunter takes a look at the precise language President Obama uses in the Executive Order he signed on June 14. President Obama used terms such as “we can’t wait” and “building a nationwide broadband network will strengthen our economy.” According to Hunter, there is a lot of power behind these phrases. ‘Waiting’ and ‘building’ imply that this network does not already exist in the US, contrary to popular belief there is still a glut of fiber. The network the President refers to is a fiber infrastructure that is not yet in existence in America.
At the root of Hunter’s article are two messages: first, that President Obama is correct- there is a need for a network to be built across America in order to drive the economy; and second, that the necessary network needed is a fiber-based infrastructure.
As you tune in to the Democratic National Convention this week, remember a plan for broadband is just a critical as many of the other aspects discussed by the candidates.
